Home Tourism is growing in India

Even a decade ago ‘home tourism’ was never an integral part of the tourism industry and culture of this country. The tourists and the tour operators have always focused on economic hotels and luxury
bunglows whenever they sought for any package or non package tour of any dimension.
But with time, the elements that have been out of focus for almost an eternity have now come out quite distinctively transmitting a candid message of brave, affordable and safe tourism. This message has come from Association for Conservation and Tourism (ACT), Kolkata.

The ACT contemplates to give an opportunity to the avid trotters to meet people who provide home stay in distant villages of north and north east India. The ACT earnestly wants a comprehensive interaction with the tourists to interact with them directly so that the adventure loving people of Bengal can easily veer into the opportunities of home stays and others facilities that are waiting in remote villages of Nepal, Bhutan, Arunachal Pradesh, Sikim etc.
According to ACT, with time, the home stay concept has changed a lot. Prior, home stay comes to the tourists as last resort for food and lodging. But now, home stay givers have gone smarter and now they have understood that their homes at the remotest of places can provide them with ample opportunities for decent livelihood.
Hence, there is no denying the fact that if the home stay givers can earn a decent livelihood, the tourists are also big gainers here. With minimum cost of food and lodging, they can extract the cream of beauty and adventure from the flora and fauna of the remotest part of Himalayas, which even a plush hotel would not have provided.”
