1938 - Swiss chemist Albert Hoffmann's invention of the lysergic acid diethylamide drug came into existence. It’s an infamous banned hallucinogenic drug. Effects typically include altered thoughts, feelings, and awareness of one's surroundings.
 
1945 – UNESCO (United Nations Educational Scientific and Cultural Organization) was founded.
 
1947 - Cyclone Kathleen killed 1,930 people in Saitama, Tokyo.
 
1973 - Pullela Gopichand (born 16 November 1973) is a former Indian badminton player. Presently, he is the Chief National Coach for the Indian Badminton team. He won the All England Open Badminton Championships in 2001, becoming the second Indian to achieve this feat after Prakash Padukone.
 
1975 - The Third Cold War began between the United Kingdom and Iceland.
 
1988 - Benazir Bhutto was elected the first woman Prime Minister of Pakistan. Elections were held in Pakistan almost a decade later.
