1820 – Pandit Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar (Ishwar Chandra Bandyopadhyay) was born (26 September 1820 – 29 July 1891).
Amongst illustrious sons of India, Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar stands out as an inspiring figure who pioneered the cause of education, women's education and widow remarriage. Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar was a leading participant of the cultural awakening in the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, he was one of key figures of Bengal Renaissance, and still continues to inspire countless Indians even today.
 
1932 – The 13th Prime Minister of India, Dr. Manmohan Singh was born.
Indian economist, academic, and politician who served as the 13th Prime Minister of India. The first Sikh in office, Singh was also the first prime minister since Jawaharlal Nehru to be re-elected after completing a full five-year term. He also served as Leader of opposition in Rajya Sabha, Chief Economic Advisor, Governor of RBI, and head of planning commission.
 
1989 - Sri Hemanta Mukhopadhyay, also known as Hemant Kumar (16 June 1920 – 26 September 1989).
He was a legendary Bengali singer and music director who sang in Bengali, Hindi and other Indian languages. He was an artist of Bengali and Hindi Basic and Film Songs, Rabindra Sangeet, and many other songs. He won two National awards for the category of best male playback singer and considered as a legend in Indian cinema. 
 
1923 - Dharamdev Pishorimal Anand, although we know him as Dev Anand was born (26 September 1923 – 3 December 2011).
He was an Indian film actor, writer, director and producer known for his work in Hindi cinema. His  illustrious career was spanned over six decades. He is considered as one of the stylish, finest and most successful actors in the Indian film industry.
