1913 - Rudolf Christian Karl Diesel disappeared from a ship in English channel (18th March 1858 – 29th September 1913).He was a Germen mechanical engineer, scientist and namesake of his own invention the diesel engine.
 
1959 - Arati Saha, aged 19, became the first Asian woman to swim across the English Channel.
 
1971 – Oman joined the Arab League.
 
2006 – A Boeing 737 and an Embraer 600 collided in mid-air at 37000 ft, killing 154 people and triggering a worst aviation crisis in human history.
 
2016 -  Eleven days after the Uri attack, the Indian Army conducts "surgical strike" against suspected militants in Pakistani-administered Kashmir.
