1st October

1854 – The introduction of postage stamps started in India.
 
1906 –  Iconic music composer Sri. Sachin Dev Burman (1 October 1906 – 31 October 1975) was born. He was born in the royal family of Tripura, his father was  Mahamanyabar Rajkumar Nabadwipchandra Dev Burman, the heir to the Tripura throne, and his mother, Rajkumari Nirmala Devi, was the royal princess of Manipur.
 
1949 – Communist Party rule began in China.
 
1960 – Nigeria gained its independence from Britain but remained a member of the Commonwealth.
 
1971 – Walt Disney World Resort which is commonly referred to as Disney World opened near Orlando, Florida.
