1931 : The 11th President of India, Bharat Ratna Dr. Avul Pakir Jainulabdeen Abdul Kalam was born (15 October 1931 – 27 July 2015). A scholar, scientist and science administrator who was associated with DRDO and ISRO for four decades. For his pivotal role in the development of ballistic missile technology, he is also referred to as “Missile Man of India”.
 
1932 : Tata Airlines which was later acquired by Govt. of India to become Air India, started its journey with the first flight. Bharat Ratna Jehangir Ratanji Dadabhoy Tata (J.R.D.Tata) himself flew the first flight.
 
1949 : The state of Tripura was included in the Republic of India.
 
1988 : Padmashri Ujwala Patil became the first Asian woman to travel the world through the sea.
 
1990 : Eighth and last leader of the Soviet Union, Mikhail Gorbachev was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for his efforts to reduce the Cold War tensions.
