2nd October

1869 – One of the greatest Indians of the 20th century, Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi — known as the ‘Mahatma’ was born on (2nd October 1869 – 30th January 1948) this day at Porbandar in coastal Gujarat. His contributions to the formation of Modern India also gave him the title – "Father of the Nation".

1904 – Politician, freedom fighter and 2nd Prime Minister of India, Bharat Ratna Sri. Lal Bahadur Shastri (2 October 1904 – 11 January 1966) was born. During his tenure, the White revolution and Green revolution started which led to the country’s self-reliance over food and milk production.

1958 – Guinea gained its independence from France.

1975 – Freedom fighter, politician, Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu Bharat Ratna Sri. K.K. Kamaraj passed away (15 July 1903 – 2 October 1975).
