18 September

1948 : Operation Polo came to halt after the surrender of the army of Hyderabad in front of Indian Army.

1967 : Nagaland adopted English as a medium of instruction.
 
1962 : Burundi, Jamaica, Rwanda and Trinidad and Tobago were admitted to the United Nations.

2011 : The Sikkim earthquake was felt across northeastern India, Nepal, Bhutan, Bangladesh and southern Tibet. Around 200 people died in the calamity.

2016 : Day of Uri attack in Jammu and Kashmir, India by terrorist group of Pakistan based Jaish-e-Mohammed resulted in the deaths of nineteen Indian Army soldiers and all four terrorists.
