Credai Bengal opens primary school in Sunderbans

Credai Bengal president, Nandu Belani, inaugurated a primary school named “Udita Primary School” at Paschim Khejurberia in Sundarbans as a part of their contribution to uplift the weaker sections of the society .Udita has been conceived by the women’s wing of Credai Bengal and is fully funded its members.

Speaking on this initiative, Belani said, “The organisation has always laid great emphasis on charitable activities. We are actively involved in the welfare of construction of workers for whom we year-round put up free health camps and skilling classes. Also, we are very committed towards the environment and work consistently for greening initiatives in the city alongside the Kolkata Municipal Corporation. However, this is the first time we are establishing a school. It is a beautiful gift of education from all to the children of this village. We’ve previously held a massive coconut-sapling distribution drive in Sunderabans and this time around too we chose the place for setting up this school. We are happy that many of our members have contributed to this noble cause”.

The women’s wing is a cell of the Confederation of Real Estate Developers’ Associations of India (CREDAI) which works towards more representation of women in real estate and also sundry other social causes. The idea to build a school sprung from the recent learning gap that many rural children had to undergo due to the pandemic forcing schools to close down in villages across India.

Speaking on this occasion Kavita Kajaria, convener, Credai Bengal women’s wing, said, “Our members are into building residential buildings and offices and other social infrastructure across the state, so especially after the pandemic, we thought of building a school here. Our women’s wing has previously worked in the areas of women’s sanitation and waste-management and we are absolutely delighted to now have a school built for primary school children.”
