A show on state-of-the-art tech at Consumer Electronics Show 2022

At the ongoing Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2022, Chinese technology gaint Hesai showed various advanced and low-cost solutions, helping to the development of the struggling autonomous driving industry.

AT128, a long-range hybrid solid-state lidar for driver-assistance systems (ADAS) applications in mass-production passenger and commercial cars, was shown by Hesai, a Shanghai-based high-tech startup.

According to Connie Su, the company's public relations director, AT128 delivers the basic perceptual capabilities that L3+ autonomous vehicles require and may be simply placed onto the vehicle.

"AT128 has a ranging capability of 200 meters at 10 per cent reflectivity, with effective ground detection as far as 70 meters. It is one of the few hybrid solid-state lidars on the market that can detect objects at such a long range, while also reaching such a high measurement frequency," she said.

Apart from high reliability, AT128 greatly simplifies the traditional complex assembly process, thus increasing manufacturing efficiency and consistency for mass production needs. The sensor will begin mass production in 2022, reports Xinhua news agency.

Hesai also unveiled a new sensor, QT128, a short-range lidar with 105 degree ultra-wide vertical field of view, providing blind spot solution for robotaxis and robotrucks. QT128 will begin mass production in 2023.

Lidar, an acronym of "light detection and ranging," is a key equipment used in control and navigation for autonomous driving vehicles. Researchers forecast that by 2025, approximately eight million autonomous or semi-autonomous vehicles will run on the road.

On the other hand, Consumer electronics brand TCL has unveiled a couple of new smart glasses called TCL NxtWear Air and TCL Leiniao Air at CES 2022.

TCL NxtWear Air glasses are equipped with a built-in stereo speaker that can be connected to Bluetooth or wired headphones and are also equipped with two magnetic interchangeable plates, which can be attached to the front of the frame to change the style of glasses.

"With dual 1080p Micro OLED displays, the TCL NxtWear Air delivers ample detail, punchy, rich and vibrant colors, as well as deep shadows and inky blacks. It also creates an expansive, immersive viewing environment, which is the equivalent of watching a 140-inch screen, 4 metres away - similar to being in a movie theatre," the company said in a statement.

NxtWear Air will be available worldwide in the first quarter of 2022 but TCL has not revealed the prices yet.

The TCL Leiniao Air is the industry's first binocular full-color MicroLED holographic optical waveguide AR glasses.

These are meant to work more as a heads-up display, showing relevant fitness data while exercising, a weather forecast and so on.

In the future, this pair of glasses will be launched with more new functions including information prompts, photo sharing, smart connection controls, multi-screen presentation, interoperability with automobiles, and other functions.
