 Scattered incidents of violence were witnessed in different wards of the municipal area on Saturday as the industrial city went for polls. Six rounds of bullets were fired in front of the booth at the railway station in Ward 27. A huge police force went to the area. BJP leader Jitendra Tewari said the ruling party was behind the firing. However, the ruling party has denied the allegations.

  A commotion broke out at Budhar DAV School on Houghton Road in Ward 48. Allegedly, several outsiders came to occupy the booth. The CPM agent present protested leading to the commotion.

Disputes erupted between activists and supporters of the two political parties. One side started hurling bricks at the other. There was widespread tension in the area. Upon receiving the news, IG (West) Sanjay Singh rushed to the spot.

A large police force followed Asansol Durgapur Police Commissioner N Sudhir Kumar Nilkantam to the spot. Police charged batons to disperse the crowd. Four policemen were injured when bricks rained on them. Among them was a DSP. After that the police led by Sanjay Singh conducted a route march in the area. Later, IG West said there was a disturbance. In between, bricks are thrown. Four policemen were injured and six people have been arrested.

EVM machines were damaged at Wards 7 and 40. Allegedly, residents of the area were standing in line to cast their votes. The queue saw some people entered the booth and smashed the EVMs. Police and Election Commission personnel came to the area after receiving the news.
