Air India flight AI2379 was flying from Phuket, Thailand, to Delhi on August 4, carrying 137 passengers, including three infants, and eight crew members. While cruising above 36,000 feet, the Airbus A320neo abruptly lost about 300 feet of altitude, throwing unsecured passengers and cabin crew against the ceiling and fixtures in the space of a few seconds.
The aircraft stabilized and continued on to Delhi, landing normally at 11:07 a.m. local time. But the cabin was left visibly damaged, and medical teams were waiting on the tarmac.

Reported injury figures shifted as more details emerged, landing somewhere between 8 and 17 people depending on the outlet. Thirteen passengers and four of the six cabin crew were confirmed injured, with most sustaining bruises, sprains, and minor cuts. One flight attendant’s injuries were classified as severe. By the following day, Air India confirmed all 13 injured passengers had been discharged, while the affected crew members remained under medical care.

That distinction matters. Turbulence is an external weather event the crew can’t control.
