MG unveils the Hector Hawk, a three-row SUV built for the electric era

JSW MG Motor India launches its most important SUV of 2026 today, introducing the company’s new multi-powertrain architecture in a single, family-sized package.

Electric variant
~530 km
69.2 kWh LFP · ~200 PS / 310 Nm
Plug-in hybrid — arriving later
~1,100 km
1.5L petrol + 20.5 kWh · up to 125 km EV-only

A new platform for a new era

The ADAPT architecture is designed to be genuinely flexible, supporting battery-electric, strong-hybrid, plug-in hybrid, and range-extender powertrains from a single base. The Hector Hawk is the proving ground for that strategy, launching first as a full EV, with a plug-in hybrid variant expected to follow later this year.

Under the skin, the Hector Hawk shares its bones with the Wuling Starlight 560 sold in overseas markets, giving MG a head start on engineering while it tailors the SUV for Indian roads, buyers, and price sensitivities.

Two powertrains, one ambitious SUV

Electric variant. The EV is expected to run on a roughly 69.2 kWh LFP battery pack — prized for its safety and long-term durability — paired with a single front-mounted motor producing somewhere in the range of 200 PS and 310 Nm of torque. Range estimates put the EV at around 530 km on a full charge, positioning it to go head-to-head with the Mahindra XEV 9S and BE 6.

Plug-in hybrid variant. Arriving later in 2026, the PHEV pairs a 1.5-litre petrol engine with an electric motor and a smaller 20.5 kWh battery. It’s expected to deliver up to 125 km of pure-electric driving, with a combined range that could stretch beyond 1,000 km — useful for buyers who want EV running for daily commutes but don’t want range anxiety on longer trips.

Both versions use a front-wheel-drive layout — a deliberate choice that sets the Hector Hawk apart mechanically from rear-wheel-drive rivals and signals MG’s focus on cabin space over outright performance.

Cabin, features, and space

As a seven-seater aimed at families, the Hector Hawk’s interior is built around practicality without skimping on tech.

  • 12.8″ touchscreen infotainment
  • 8.8″ digital instrument cluster
  • Ventilated front seats
  • Panoramic sunroof
  • Level 2 ADAS suite
  • 7-seat, three-row layout

Design-wise, the SUV wears a boxy, upright stance with a large blacked-out grille, LED headlamps framed by running light strips, and a sporty lower bumper with a skid plate. The EV variant gets a closed-off front grille — typical for electric models — and its own set of aero-optimised alloy wheels, distinguishing it visually from the PHEV.

Pricing and availability

Estimates ahead of launch varied fairly widely, with some reports pegging the starting price around ₹18–20 lakh and others expecting the range to stretch closer to ₹27–30 lakh depending on variant and battery configuration. MG is also expected to offer its Battery-as-a-Service programme, which could lower the effective on-road price for EV buyers.

Timing. Sales are expected to begin in the September–October window, timed to land ahead of the Diwali festive season — historically one of the strongest car-buying periods in India.

Where it fits in the market

The Hector Hawk enters a crowded and increasingly competitive three-row SUV segment, with rivals split along powertrain lines.

EV rivals

  • Mahindra XEV 9S
  • Mahindra BE 6
  • Tata Sierra EV

PHEV rivals

  • Mahindra XUV 7XO
  • Tata Safari

It slots in above the standard Hector in MG’s India lineup, giving the brand a genuine flagship-adjacent SUV to sit alongside recent launches like the Majestor, Windsor EV, and M9.

The bigger picture

The Hector Hawk isn’t just a new SUV — it’s a statement about where JSW MG Motor is headed. With the ADAPT platform now live, MG has laid the groundwork to roll out EVs, hybrids, and range-extender vehicles faster and more efficiently across future models. If the Hector Hawk lands well with buyers, expect the platform to underpin several more launches through 2026 and 2027.
